I am running for the San Joaquin County Delta Community College District Area 6 Trustee because I want to ensure all students have the ability to obtain a college education, if that is their goal.
With 24 years of experience as an educator, my journey began at a community college, in fact three. So I know from firsthand experience how vital a strong community college is in shaping a bright future for every student.
After community college, I transferred to California Baptist University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree. Later, I completed my master’s degree in educational administration at Cal State LA, followed by a doctorate in educational leadership from Cal State Fullerton.
As a first-generation college student and a young mother, I am living proof of the transformative power of community college support. I want to ensure that every student in Tracy, Mountain House, and San Joaquin County has the same opportunities.
I seek to represent Tracy and Mountain House as a trustee to break down barriers in San Joaquin County. To ensure our students thrive in our community and beyond, we must make them aware of the incredible opportunities Delta College offers. Navigating the educational system can be daunting, especially for first-generation students, as I know well.
My experience teaching Adult ESL with Tracy Unified and involvement with the Delta Consortium, which helps adult ESL students transition to Delta College, underscores my commitment to supporting students in our community. I am dedicated to being a champion for every student, regardless of their background or life circumstances, whether they aim to pursue further education or obtain credentials for a rewarding career here in San Joaquin County.
Having worked at every level of education, from Kindergarten to graduate school, and from the classroom to the boardroom, I deeply understand the challenges we face in education, including equity and achievement gaps, and limited financial resources. I will leverage these experiences to support San Joaquin Delta College and the students we serve.
My service on various advisory committees for CSU Fullerton, Fullerton College, and the North Orange County Community College District has equipped me with valuable experience working with college presidents and chancellors, gathering community input on student challenges, and developing effective solutions.
As the Director for the Title V-B grant at CSU Fullerton, I was responsible for breaking down barriers to success for socioeconomically disadvantaged students and students of color. I designed lasting support structures for students and training programs for faculty that continue to make a difference today.
Now, as a high school Spanish teacher in the Tracy Unified School District, I have the unique opportunity to work with students considering Delta College. I understand their needs and concerns about college. I am aware that many Delta College students struggle with basic needs like housing, food, and family responsibilities, which can impact their ability to complete their degrees and transfer. These challenges were once mine as well.
Thanks to the support of my community colleges, I have gained leadership experience at every level of education. Today, I am proud to help students succeed daily. I believe I am the best candidate to serve on the board and empower every Delta College student to achieve their dreams.
The date is approaching fast and we’re making preparations. Don’t miss out!

As a board member, I will advocate for increasing access to financial aid, scholarships, and emergency grants that address the specific needs of low-income students. I will also work to strengthen mentorship and advising programs, expanding opportunities for first-generation college students to connect with faculty, staff, and peers who can provide valuable guidance and support. Moreover, I will champion policies and training initiatives aimed at protecting and supporting undocumented students, LGBTQ+ students, and students of color by ensuring that faculty and staff receive ongoing equity training and by providing students with legal resources and safe spaces on campus.
